Description

Product Details Overview: The DST micro-ACT is an implantable activity and temperature bio-logger designed for small captive and free-ranging animals. It provides an overview of changes in animal activity over time, is minimally invasive, simple to implant and explant, and features on-board calculation of acceleration statistics from 3-axis accelerometer data. Key Features: Statistical and raw 3-axis accelerometer data Minimally invasive Small size (3.3g) Stress-free long-term studies Guaranteed accuracy and performance Statistical and raw 3-axis accelerometer data: Each activity measurement is a burst activity measurement over one minute with a user programmable sampling frequency of 0.03Hz-10Hz. Statistical parameters are calculated on-board, based on the dynamic body acceleration of the animal. Raw accelerometer measurements can be stored in the logger’s memory for further processing. Minimally Invasive: The DST micro-ACT simultaneously measures long term activity and core body temperature in the animal. The logger is simple to implant and explant and is made from ceramic housing to guarantee biocompatibility. Application: Ideal for studies on behaviour, pre-clinical vaccine efficacy, and stress response. Suitable for laboratory, domestic, and wildlife animal research, including animal welfare studies and all biosafety levels. Overview of Changes in Animal Activity Over Time: Measures acceleration-derived activity to provide an overall view of changes in study animals’ activity over time. Measures acceleration in three dimensions, in relation to earth‘s gravity field. Each activity measurement is composed of a burst activity measurement over one minute with a chosen sampling frequency of 0.03Hz-10Hz. Stress-Free Long-Term Studies: Battery life of over 13 months when sampling every 15 minutes at a 1Hz sampling frequency. Useful for comprehensive data sets throughout the research period with no disturbance to the animal. No data transmission means no housing or environmental restrictions for data collection. Different Measurement Intervals: Loggers can be programmed with multiple different intervals within a study, optimizing battery life and memory usage. Guaranteed accuracy and performance: Each logger is individually calibrated for temperature and comes with a calibration certificate. Static calibration is performed on acceleration values, eliminating the need for user normalization. Accuracy and performance are guaranteed for one year after purchase. Simple in use, from setup to data retrieval: Designed for ease of use throughout the research process, from setup, implantation, to data retrieval and analysis. Supported by Mercury software and a Communication Box (required for first order). Programming the logger: Logger is placed into a Communication Box and connected to the software. User sets start time, date, and sampling interval before starting the recorder. Statistical parameters and raw accelerometer data: Each activity measurement is recorded over a one minute period with a 3-axis accelerometer, using a user programmable sampling frequency of 0.03Hz-10Hz. The logger provides six statistical parameters for each one minute measurement: minimum, maximum, and average EA* values, variance of EA, skewness, and kurtosis. Raw accelerometer data can be stored for additional calculations. *EA stands for “external acceleration”, an individually calibrated and normalized variable comparable to the vectoral sum of the dynamic body acceleration (VeDBA). Multiple measurement intervals: Different measurement intervals can be set for the same study, optimizing memory space and battery life. Memory and battery life calculations: Software automatically calculates memory capacity and estimated battery consumption based on interval settings. Uploading the Data: After recovering the logger, data is uploaded to the software and displayed in graphic and tabular form. Data can be exported to other programs. Reusable: Logger can be sterilized and reused as long as the battery lasts. Battery life can be viewed in the software. Hermetically sealed: All Star-Oddi loggers are implantable grade, hermetically sealed, waterproof, and have high pressure tolerance. Battery is not replaceable. Accessories: Communication box: Interface between logger and PC, used for starting logger and retrieving data. Comes with USB cable. Mercury software: Graphical Windows software for measurement setup, data retrieval, and export. Free updates. Implantation: Leadless design and small size make implantation simple and minimally invasive. Suitable for small animals such as rats, small rodents, small birds, and fish. Loggers can be sterilized and reused as long as the battery lasts. Not all sterilization methods are suitable; avoid methods where temperature exceeds 60°C.
